Introduction

Hello! I am a teacher  at Barker College and I´ve read "An Inspector Calls" with a class of 15-year-old students. I´ve designed this project as a creative writing activity to give a voice to Eva Smith,  the only character of the play who doesn´t have one. I´ve given my students the guiding questions you´ll find on this page and I´ve asked them to write the entries of Eva´s journal in small groups. This is the final product. I hope you like it!

Dear Diary,

Hi! I´m 22 years old. I was born and bred in the countryside, but I´ve been living in Brumley for two years now. I rent a small back room, but I hope one day I will be able to find bigger and more comfortable lodgings.
At the moment I´m working for Birling and Co. I work long hours and get very little money, but the good thing about the job is that I´ve made some friends with whom I sometimes go out. This is very important for me as I don´t have any relatives in town, and I used to feel lonely before I met these girls. One day, I hope I´ll meet a good boy and get married. I would love to have a nice family, and some healthy children too!. I hope my dreams will soon come true!
